Effigy of Sir Brian Fitzalan c. 1290
Bedale, North Yorkshire
A collection of five fine medieval effigies – dating from 1290 to 1450 - were suffering from the effects of a damp environment. Fragments of surviving original polychrome were identified, analysed and stabilised, and the effigies were cleaned and isolated by re-setting them on lead membranes.
We are specialists in the repair and conservation of church monuments, ranging from medieval effigies and tombs to nineteenth century marble cantilevered monuments. Work may include dismantling and structural repair, relocation and isolation or analysis and stabilisation of polychrome surface layers.
